Admissions

Students who desire admission to the Teacher Education Program (TEP) must submit a formal application packet to the TEP.  Students are eligible for consideration for admission to the Teacher Education Program to times each academic year (deadlines: September 15 and February 15) if they have:

  • Gained admission to the University of Montana
  • Completed 30 semester university credits
  • A minimum cumulative GPA (including all transfer credits) of 2.75
  • Completed an introductory psychology course and an English composition course
  • Evidence of their writing ability by means of a brief essay
  • Appropriate experience with youth
  • Supportive recommendations from at least two faculty members
  • Results of a national fingerprint based background check

Formal notification of admission to the Teacher Education Program will be made in writing and sent to the candidate prior to the preregistration period (approximately 2 ½ months) before the next semester.  Not all qualified applications are admitted since acceptance is also based on the number of applicants and the number openings.

Prior to their application and admission to the professional Teacher Education Program, students are considered pre Health Enhancement.

Degree Holding Students

  • May submit transcripts for review to determine how previous course work applies
  • May earn a second baccalaureate degree, depending on field chosen and previous degree
  • May complete certification combined with a master's degree in the elementary or secondary program
  • Should enroll with the Admissions Office under the designation post-baccalaureate student (unless pursuing a graduate degree)
