Taught by the Lewis & Clark Trail Adventures staff. Four days on Idaho's Main Salmon, a great spring trip with an educational emphasis on the fundamentals of running whitewater and multi-day river trips. HHP 172 MAC Western Jitterbug/Swing
An introduction to Western Jittterbug/Swing will provide an outstanding foundation for anyone wanting to become a competent Jitterbug/Swing dancer on any social dance floor, and even provide a base for students wishing to eventually become performance or competitive dancers. Components of this class include: break down of various rhythms found in Jitterbug/Swing, dance floor etiquette, learning to lead and follow, and creating interesting combinations. Graded Credit/No Credit. Equipment needs: Appropriate dress to dance (layers and clothing that is easy to move in is recommended) and socks or clean, non-marking dance or gym shoes.

HHP 173 YMCA Strength Training
This is a strength training program for the individual which includes initial instruction, free weights orientation, and fitness test. The student is responsible for scheduling the initial instruction meeting when they pay the YMCA fee. The student schedules the remainder of the sessions on their own time. Graded Credit/No Credit. For swimmers of all levels. Each class includes a warm-up, cardio session, cool-down, toning session, and stretch. Floatation belts, noodle, kickboards, and dumbbells are used in combination with water resistance to provide a great workout. Graded Credit/No Credit. Equipment Needs: Goggles recommended.

Introduce/review the fundamentals of the game of bowling. HHP 175 Introduction to Capoeira (Bitterroot Gymnastics, 736 Cooper St.)
This course provides an introduction into the basic movements and techniques of Capoeria in the style of Capoeira Regional. Learn stretching, basic movements, kicks and defenses. HHP 175 Trampoline & Aerial Acrobatics
Learn or refine aerial acrobatic and tumbling skills on a variety of trampolines. Focus is on proper progressions and techniques. HHP 177 Yoga/Meditation/Philosophy
This class is an introduction to yoga postures, mediation and the philosophy of yoga. Classic yoga postures are taught with modifications for stiffness and injury. The foundations of seated meditation are introduced as well as discussing the philosophy of yoga. Bare feet required. Graded Credit/No Credit. Equipment Needs: Mats and other yoga props are provided.

HHP 177 Introduction to Ashtanga Yoga
A beginning yoga class introducing Ashtanga yoga to students new to yoga. Ashtanga yoga is a flowing series of poses designed to create strength, flexibility and balance. Modifications are taught for injury and stiffness. Ashtanga yoga is an ancient practice connecting breath, gaze and movement. This class is for new students interested in a more challenging yoga class. Bare feet required. Graded Credit/No Credit. Equipment Needs: Mats and other yoga props are provided.

Introduction to the basic management, care, and riding of horses. This class will work on developing the classical, balanced, riding position. As well as review the training of a horse through movement and exercises, known as “Dancing with Horses.” Pre-requisite for this class is HHP 178 Horse Care or permission from instructor. HHP 178 3-Day Eventing/Jumping (Treasure State Equestrian Center)

This class will review horse training and riding based on three distinct tests: Dressage, Cross Country Jumping, and Stadium Jumping. HHP 179 WCFC Aerobics

For women only. A variety of classes to choose from including: Conditioning Mix, Yoga, Low Impact & Step Combo, Level II Step, The Lift, Abdominals & Stretch, Step and Balls, & Cross-training. These classes are taught to provide a safe and effective workout for beginner to advanced levels. All classes include warm-up, cardiovascular conditioning, cool-down, and stretch. HHP 179 WCFC Pilates
For women only. This course is designed to introduce students to the physical conditioning techniques of Joseph Pilates. Universal reformers (single-station exercise machines) are used to develop strength, flexibility, stamina, coordination, and mind/body awareness. For all fitness levels. HHP Activity Classes 171-179 held at various Missoula area agencies. Students provide own transportation. All agency fees paid directly to the agency before attending class. Please show your Griz Card when paying.

Classes with day & time listed as "Arrange" indicate the student has a menu of class days and times available at that agency to choose from. Students must attend a minimum of 22 classes (max 28) prior to finals week. Students cannot attend more that 3 times/week.

Classes with a scheduled day and time fall within the same attendance policies as all HHP Activity Classes.

Students enrolling in courses taught at UM's Fitness and Recreation Center must present a Griz Card validating that the Campus Recreation Fee has been paid for that semester.

NOTE: For all HHP 101-179 courses:

  1. There are additional fees with some courses that are noted with that course.
  2. Attendance policy strictly enforced- classes missed prior to and after late registration count towards total absences allowed.
  3. Auditing of HHP 101-179 courses is not allowed
