Educational Leadership Doctoral Programs (Ed.D.)

Program of Study

The Department of Educational Leadership provides two means by which an Ed.D. degree can be obtained, and both require 90 semester credits but include work done in a master's degree prior to application for the doctorate. In the traditional degree program, students attend courses on campus, usually in the evenings. The doctoral cohort program provides a course of study over weekends and better accommodates those who work during the week and cannot travel to campus to attend courses. Although both programs are offered in Missoula , some students find the weekend cohort program to better fit their schedules. Cohorts begin when there are a sufficient number of students interested.

Checklist of Critical Tasks

The checklist for the Doctoral Degree has eighteen (18) critical tasks, which must be undertaken before the program can be complete. These tasks include such things as: application, qualifying exams, planning the program of study, application for comprehensive exams, admissions to candidacy, course work, dissertation writing and dissertation defense in an oral exam.

In order to insure their completion the student with their advisor should use the form provided to maintain a record of each task completed. In addition to these requirements the student will be expected to meet the course requirements with an acceptable GPA (3.5).

Program Requirements

The program requirements for the Doctoral Degree are based on the primary area of study and the supporting area of study selected by the student. The student is responsible for working with his/her advisor to plan a formal program of study as soon as practical, but certainly by the end of the first semester of coursework.
