Admission
Students must have full admission to the Teacher Education Program prior to applying for admission to the Literacy Program. Individuals who wish to complete the Literacy Program must:
- Sustain a GPA of 3.5 or better in literacy related courses.
- Submit an application packet to a literacy advisor prior to taking courses beyond C&I 405 or C&I 427.
The admission packet must contain:
- copy of transcripts
- desired program plan, and
- autobiographical essay of 500 words.
Complete a pre-admission interview with one of the three literacy faculty members: Professors Rhea A. Ashmore, Jan LaBonty, or Marian J. McKenna. The interview will include but not be limited to:
- discussion of grades and prior education experience,
- discussion of goals and career objectives,
- discussion of surrounding student's understanding of basic psychological and literacy concepts, and
- tentative timeline of program plan.
File four copies of the approved program plan with the appropriate signatures within ten days after the pre-admission interview to the following:
- Literacy Advisor
- Academic Advisor
- Liscensure Specialist
- Student personal file
