Library Media Program

Program of Study

The University of Montana Online Library Media program consists of nine courses for a total of 25 semester credit hours. All courses are taught online at either the UM-Missoula campus or the UM-Western campus: Children's Literature; Young Adult Literature; Reference Resources; Libraries and Technology; Collection Development and the Curriculum; Administration; Library Media Technical Processes; Information Literacy; and the Library Media practicum. During the practicum, students spend 90 hours working in a library and 10 hours in online discussions.

The Course of Study table lists all the potential courses for the library media endorsement, both online and on campus. It designates which ones are online and which are on campus. The number of credits for each course is provided and the campus responsible for teaching each course.

The Class Rotation table shows the planned rotation for the library media courses. This information can help students and their advisors plan their course of study for this endorsement. It is recommended that students who are working full time take only one course per semester during the academic year.

The Course Equivalencies and Replacements table defines course equivalencies for people who had already been enrolled in the old program before it was combined with Western. It outlines which courses can be used for each course requirement of the endorsement program.
