Admission

Students are eligible for consideration for admission (deadlines: September 15 and February 15) if they have:

  • Gained admission to the University of Montana
  • Completed 30 semester university credits
  • A minimum cumulative GPA (including all transfer credits) of 2.75
  • Completed an introductory psychology course and an English composition course
  • Evidence of their writing ability by means of a brief essay
  • Appropriate experience with youth
  • Supportive recommendations from at least two faculty members

Prior to admission to the Teacher Education Program, usually at the end of sophomore year, students are considered pre-education majors and are advised by the Academic Advising Office.

Degree Holding Students

  • May submit transcripts for review to determine how previous course work applies
  • May earn a second baccalaureate degree, depending on field chosen and previous degree
  • May complete certification combined with a master's degree in the elementary or secondary program
  • Should enroll with the Admissions Office under the designation post-baccalaureate student (unless pursuing a graduate degree
