    Teacher Education Council

    Charge:

    Formed in 1992, the Teacher Education Council is a permanent standing committee with University Committee status. It has, as its primary purpose, the review of all teacher education programs and policies at The University of Montana-Missoula. Such review will be collaborative with and advisory to the Dean of the School of Education .

    The Council will review and make recommendations relative to all program changes, course or degree modifications, or other curriculum requests prior to submission to the university's Academic Standards and Curriculum Review Committee. Working subcommittees of the Council include the Elementary Admissions Committee, the Secondary Admissions Committee, and the Admissions Appeal Committee.

    Membership includes one representative of each of the teacher licensure programs at The University of Montana. In addition, the group includes the accreditation coordinator as well as representatives from professional studies (Curriculum and Instruction), field experiences, and teacher licensure. The Dean of each school or college offering teacher preparation programs (or designee) is also represented on the Council.

    Curriculum and Instruction Assessment Committee

    Charge:

    Formed in 2003, the C&I Assessment Committee is a standing committee that will assume leadership for C&I and the Teacher Education Program in planning for assessment. Specifically, the group will:

    • Identify necessary program assessment indicators, portfolio processes;
    • Review the various programmatic assessment instruments being used in the Teacher Education Program for usefulness, consistency, reliability and validity;
    • Survey recent graduates and administrators for satisfaction with curriculum in preparation for teaching; summarize findings
    • Conduct annual survey of student diversity
    • Conduct and summarize advising evaluations each semester
    • Inform selves and others of assessment trends and outcomes data
    • Draft the C&I assessment plan
    • The group will include representatives from elementary education, secondary education, specialty areas, students, and major content areas.

    Curriculum and Instruction Instructional Technology Committee

    Charge:

    This standing committee is responsible for assuming technology leadership in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and the Teacher Education Program by:

    • Formulating and monitoring the program plans for technology in the curriculum
    • Developing opportunities for faculty in-service on use of technology in their own classes
    • Developing requests for user fee monies and distribution of any dollars received.

    Membership includes faculty representatives who teach technology-rich classes and faculty who have an interest in the field. The School of Education Director of Information Technology may serve as an ex officio member of the committee.

    Diversity Plan Task Force

    Charge:

    The Task Force convened in March 2004 to revise and focus the School of Education Diversity Plan . Specifically, the group is to develop a workable plan that:

    • is realistic for all programs at UM-Missoula that prepare educators;
    • addresses the dimensions of diversity in curriculum, faculty and staff, candidates, and experiences with diversity in P-12 settings for initial and advanced programs;
    • incorporates MCA 20-1-501, Indian Education for All, across the curriculum.

    Each member was nominated by his or her dean to represent their unit in developing the plan.

    School of Education Integrated Student Database Task Force

    Charge:

    The Task Force convened in March 2004 with the following purposes:

    • Collectively and systematically decide the questions asked about programs in the School of Education and the data needed to respond
    • Provide ability to view and analyze data from a school-wide perspective
    • Systematize the level of detail and coding of data throughout the School
    • Eliminate parallel systems and redundancy
    • Decide ownership/responsibility for entering and maintaining data

    Dean of Education's Student Advisory Committee

    Charge:

    The Dean of Education Student Advisory Council (DESAC) is composed of undergraduate and graduate students from the School of Education .  It is charged with meeting regularly with the dean to provide input into school level administrative decisions.  Issues are raised and framed by both the dean and the members of the council and suggestions and solutions to problems are developed by the Council . Members may nominate themselves for service on the Council.

    Field Experiences Policy Committee

    Charge:

    Created in 1990, the Field Experiences Policy Committee is a standing committee in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Its primary purposes are to:

    • Explore opportunities for collaboration with area schools.
    • Plan for integrated curricular activity in secondary schools
    • Recommend to the Department evaluation instruments and policy for all field experiences
    • Resolve field experience issues between candidates and supervisors
    • Assist Director of Field Experiences as needed

    Membership is composed of Curriculum and Instruction faculty and practitioners from P-12 settings.
