Accreditation

National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)

The School of Education at the University of Montana is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), 2010 Massachusetts Ave., NW, Suite 500, Washington, DC 20036; phone (202) 466-7496.  This accreditation covers initial teacher preparation programs and advanced educator preparation programs. NCATE is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to accredit programs for the preparation of teachers and other professional school personnel.

Montana Board of Public Education (BPE)

The Montana Board of Public Education sets the Professional Educator Preparation Program Standards (PEPPS), reviews the programs jointly with NCATE in conjunction with NCATE's review cycle, and grants accreditation to each program area based on the recommendations of the review team.  Montana enjoys state partnership status with NCATE, meaning that NCATE accepts Montana's program standards as being equivalent to the national standards set by the specialty program areas.

 

CAATE - Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education

The purpose of CAATE is to develop, maintain, and promote appropriate minimum standards of quality of entry level Athletic Training Education Programs.

CACREP

The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), has granted accreditation to the following programs in the Counselor Education Program in the Department of Educational Leadership and Counseling at The University of Montana School of Education: Mental Health Counseling (M.A.) and School Counseling (M.A.) .

 

 

Highlights

The newest accreditation in the School of Education is the CACREP accreditation of our  masters degree programs in School Counseling and Mental Health Counseling .  Both are now accredited until 2013.
